Its 1954 and young David is a 13 year old school boy. A single child with academic parents who choose to leave him in the care of Aunty Beth believing that the stability of school and family life is the best thing for him.
However David is more that a little rebellious against all the rules set by his aunt and like all teenage boys pushes the boundries, often beyond acceptable limits and finds himself being punished.
On this particular day he simply didn’t arrive home from school. After a couple of hours his aunt was frantic with worry whilst shaking with fears as to what could have happened to the nephew left in her charge.
Eventually young david slunk into the house dragging his leather satchel, still in his school uniform without a care in the world.
‘Where have you been David’? He looked at the floor. ‘Have you any idea how worried I have been’? Half the town has been searching for you!
Eventually young David mumbled that he had been to his pals house for tea.
‘I don’t want to say aunty’
‘Well you damn well will boy. You are in my charge and I am responsible for you. Imagine what I would tell your mother and father should anything have happened to you’?
Young david shuffled from foot to foot as there was a delicate knock at the door to the parlour.
‘Come in’ called Aunt Beth, her face flushing with annoyance at the boy before her.
In walked Noreen, Davids cousin, Aunty Beths daughter who could do no wrong. ‘Oh she said. I wondered if there was any news of cousin David but it appears he is home’
‘Yes indeed dear he is, but he has yet to tell me where he has been’
Cousin noreen perched herself on the sofa enjoying the embarrassment and shame of her cousin knowing full well what her mother was capable of……
‘Where have you been David’???? Aunts voice was getting sterner. A sure sign to David that it was indeed time to speak up or her slipper would be off her foot next.
‘Franks’ he mumbled looking at the pattern on the carpet.
‘Where did you say you went’? Aunt Beth bellowed
‘He said he went to Franks Mother, the boy at the other side of town you forbade him to see Mother’
David glanced at Noreen and could see her glee at his discomfort.
‘Go and get my punishment tolls Noreen. Cousin David needs teaching a lesson’.
The young school girl skipped out of the room, pulling faces at the red faced boy behind her mothers back.
‘She was sticking her tongue out at me aunty’
‘Aren’t you in enough trouble without telling fibs about Noreen’ ‘ I won’t have such lies told about her, she works hard at school, comes home on time and is never rude and cheeky’
‘She just doesn’t get caught’ ….the words tumbled out of Davids mouth before he could stop them.
‘Thats quite enough, over my knee boy’ and the punishment began.
Firstly he was spanked through his school trousers and as Aunts hand seemed to tire his shorts were pulled down as the hiding continued.
Noreen re-appeared holding a cane, crop and tawse. ‘Here you are Mummy’ handing them to her mother.
As many of Davids shortfalls at school were pointed out by his devious cousin and Aunty seemed determined to make him cry. He wouldn’t cry in-front of Noreen. He wouldn’t give her the satisfaction. Wait til they were alone tomorrow – he would dunk her head in the toilet or put soap in her mouth.
Davids humiliation was far from over as he refused to apologise to Noreen for calling her a name. Aunty took offence and before he knew it his pants were pulled right down in front of Noreen and his bottom was given a good walloping with a very heavy leather paddle.
‘sorry Noreen’ he spluttered….
It was a fantastic morning with all of us in clothing of the day to keep the role play as close to reality as possible.
